Surrender is powerful in marriage. We need to surrender control (and give it to God). We need to surrender the need to be right (not letting reasons trump relationship). We need to surrender our need to understand God and His timing in our life.  Where control is happening in marriage, surrender is the answer.

Talk About It

What do you have trouble surrendering to God? (As your spouse shares, simply use reflective listening to listen to understand.)

Where are we trying to control each other?  (Where I need to trust God to do His work in you?)

Think About It

What do I need to surrender to God?

Where am I trying to control something in my marriage that I need to surrender to God?

Notes and Quotes

When we’re being led by self we’ll lead ourselves into ruin.

Left to our own, we are prideful and selfish.

The key to surrender is humility.

Proverbs 22:4 “The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life.”

Proverbs 11:2 “When pride comes then comes disgrace. But with the humble comes wisdom.”

How do we let God lead?

  • Accept that God is in charge
  • Talk to God. Ask God for direction.
  • Open God’s word—Read the Bible daily to get your marching orders

If transformation seems to not be happening, take a look at who’s in the drivers seat of your life.

Move to the side and let God lead.

Be surrendered.
