Let’s just be honest here…marriage can be really hard sometimes! Just like most things in life, marriage takes hard work, but believe us when we say that it’s worth it! In this Double Date with Mark and Jill, we want to share with you some of the rewards that we have personally experienced as a result of our choice to intentionally invest in our relationship and how you can reap these rewards too!

Talk About It:

Are we both committed to working for this marriage together?

Asking for help is one of the wisest things that you can do when you hit a rough spot in your marriage. Do we need to ask for help from a mentor, counselor, or pastor?

Think About It:

Have I surrendered my demand to be God in my life?

Am I willing to humbly follow God’s lead, even when I don’t understand what He’s doing?

Do I have unrealistic expectations for my spouse? For myself?

In the midst of the affair, Jill had to learn how to love Mark well, even when that love wasn’t being returned. Am I choosing to love well, even when my spouse isn’t returning that love?

Notes and Quotes:

“Marriage isn’t just about marrying the right person, it’s more about becoming the right partner.”

Mark mentioned 4 rewards that he experienced as a result of choosing to work for his marriage. You can also experience these blessings when you choose to put in the hard work!

  1. Realizing that change CAN happen!
  2. Experiencing greater emotional vulnerability and relational depth.
  3. An increase in trust for one another.
  4. Learning how to truly love well.

Romans 5:3-4 – “Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope…”
